Chrome installation guide

Install once. Keep the same folder.

Apply with AI is currently distributed as a ZIP through your account and installed with Chrome Developer mode. It is not distributed through the Chrome Web Store, and updates are manual.

Check the requirements before subscribing

  • A computer running Google Chrome, with permission to enable Developer mode and load an unpacked extension. A managed work or school browser may prevent this.
  • An Apply with AI account with an active trial or subscription to download and activate the extension. One subscription supports up to two active Chrome installations.
  • Your own supported AI provider access. Provider access and any provider charges are separate from the Apply with AI subscription.
  • A permanent local folder for the extension files. Chrome needs that folder after installation.

You can read this guide without an account. Check pricing and trial terms and platform rules and account risk before deciding whether the setup suits you.

Install and connect

  1. Download and extract. Sign in and open Downloads. Download the promoted ZIP and extract it fully into a permanent folder you will keep between updates.
  2. Open Chrome’s extension manager. Enter chrome://extensions in Chrome’s address bar and turn on Developer mode in the upper-right corner.
  3. Load the folder. Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder containing manifest.json. Select the folder itself, not the ZIP or its parent folder.
  4. Pin and connect. Pin Apply with AI from Chrome’s extension menu. Open it, choose Connect account, and confirm the installation on your account page.
  5. Connect your AI provider. Open the extension’s Settings, choose an available provider connection, complete its setup, and run the connection test.
  6. Review your settings. Check your profile and saved answers before using a workflow. Upwork requires you to press Send or Submit yourself. LinkedIn application auto-submit is on by default in a run you start; turn it off if you want final review.

Update the existing installation

Download the latest promoted release from your account. Back up your permanent extension folder, extract the update into that same folder, then open chrome://extensions and press Reload on the existing Apply with AI card.

Keep the folder in its original location and update the existing card. If a second extension appears, stop and check the folder you loaded before removing either installation or clearing data. Visit support if you are unsure.

If setup does not work

  • Chrome cannot find the extension: extract the ZIP fully and choose the folder containing manifest.json.
  • Developer mode or Load unpacked is unavailable: check whether your organization manages the browser. Do not bypass its device policies.
  • The download or activation is denied: confirm your trial or subscription is active and that an installation slot is available in your account.
  • The AI connection fails: use the connection test in the extension’s Settings and follow the setup guide for the provider you selected.

The signed-in installation page provides account connection controls. For more help, use support; do not share credentials or activation secrets.
